Understand ReShade presets and shaders.

A preset connects enabled techniques and saved parameters to shader effects installed separately on a device.

Preset configuration is not the whole installation

A ReShade preset is an INI configuration. It can name techniques, ordering, preprocessors, and effect sections, but it does not contain every shader, include, or texture that those effects may require. Use the Inspector and dependency scanner to keep configuration findings separate from selected-file evidence.

Repairs should preserve source

Duplicate entries, sorting mismatches, malformed lines, and filename casing can require different levels of review. Preset Doctor proposes bounded changes, shows exact diffs, and validates a new copy instead of overwriting the original.

Compatibility depends on context

Depth access, color space, effect order, resolution, and game behavior can change results. The Advisor reports evidence and unknowns rather than a universal compatibility or FPS score.

Version before experimenting

Use the local versioned workspace to preserve known states before repairs or merges, and export backups before clearing browser data.
